This book highlights world perspectives on critical aspects impacting the circular economy and the Just Transition. In doing so, it provides recommendations based on the seven pillars of the circular economy which involve: design for durability and longevity, reduce, reuse and recycle, refurbishment and remanufacturing, recovery and regeneration, product as a service, sustainable supply chains, and digital technologies and data.

The edited collection is clearly divided into topics and regions relative to these core elements of the circular economy and the Just Transition. Topics discussed include: Sustainable Fashion with a focus on Asia; Gender Issues in Africa; Critical Minerals with a focus on South America; Nuclear Energy Development in Europe; Renewable energy initiatives in the EU and North Africa; Urban regeneration- Challenges and Solutions for cities in the EU and South America; and the perspectives of Early Career Researchers to the study of Energy Justice.

The book provides a global approach to these issues which are at the core of the just transition to a circular economy. These issues are the impetus of what can drive a just transition to a circular economy in this time of global crisis.

This book examines energy policymaking processes from a cross-national perspective. It presents 19 in-depth country studies written by experts with extensive experience in the respective country or region. Each study explores the country's unique approach to energy policymaking, which is shaped by various factors, including domestic energy endowments, formal governance structures, environmental laws and regulations, cultural attributes, and historical experiences. All the studies employ a unique, flexible framework, adapted from the work of Elinor Ostrom. The framework has no behavioral assumptions, and allows for consideration of greater numbers of variables than other theories of policymaking. This approach has an advantage over previous theories particularly when comparing developed and developing economies.

With the applied policymaking framework, the book highlights commonalities of successful energy policymaking efforts, and offers practical guidance on cooperation at the international level. Given the breadth of coverage, it offers valuable insights for social scientists researching energy policy and policymaking processes, and for policymakers pursuing international efforts such as the 2015 Paris agreement.

This book analyzes the financial implications of biodiversity loss and the critical role banks play in both amplifying and mitigating this risk. Drawing on recent academic contributions, central bank reports, and empirical insights, the book frames biodiversity loss as both a source of physical and transition risk, and a driver of financial contagion through disrupted supply chains, asset devaluation, and credit defaults in nature-dependent sectors. The volume describes banking exposure to biodiversity-related risk and evaluates existing tools to measure and manage this exposure, including biodiversity-adjusted ESG ratings, Corporate Biodiversity Footprints (CBF), and the TNFD framework. Traditionally, just transition focuses on local jobs and workers, and its application in the context of climate change retains this focus. From its recognition in the Paris Agreement to its incorporation into domestic transition laws and policies, the just transition is essentially understood as jobs transition. In this book, Adebayo Majekolagbe shows that the traditional focus of the just transition narrative on jobs, its emphasis on distributive and procedural justice, and the failure to embed just transition into planning and decision- making have led to unjust outcomes for social and ecological systems, both locally and globally. Using Amartya Sen's capability approach to justice, Majekolagbe proposes key characteristics of just transition, establishing that human and ecological wellbeing should be the primary objectives. Finally, the book demonstrates how impact assessment can be a useful tool for mainstreaming justice into transition planning, given its recognition in laws worldwide as a regulatory tool for planning and decision- making.
