By examining key events at specific universities, athletic conferences, and the NCAA, Moyen and Thelin trace how the media and sports marketing have created an incredibly successful financial model for schools in big-time conferences. Yet this model has also created a precarious fiscal situation for hundreds of other institutions. Im Jahrhundert der Aufklaerung schliesslich avancierten die Ueberwindung des konfessionsgebundenen Schulwesens und die Umsetzung reformpaedagogischer Konzepte im (fremdsprachlichen) Unterricht zu wichtigen Themen. Wie sich der Prozess der Konfessionsbildung sowie die Reformbewegungen des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts auf Stellenwert, Inhalte und Adressatenkreise schulischen Sprachunterrichts auswirkten, wird in diesem Band anhand von Beispielen aus verschiedenen europaeischen Laendern und aus Nordamerika untersucht.
