Bridging the divide between community development ideas and practice, over half of this innovative book comprises new content with updated features including: * reflective questions * key points highlighted throughout each chapter * a glossary of terms The authors argue that transformative practice begins with everyday stories about people's lives and that practical theory generated from these narratives is the best way to inform both policy and practice. Merrill, Roberto / Neves, Catarina / Lain, Bru,
Basic Income Experiments: A Critical Examination of Their Goals, Contexts, and Methods. (Exploring the Basic Income Guarantee) 229 pp. 2021:12 (Palgrave Macmillan, UK) <669-423>
ISBN 978-3-030-89119-0 hard ¥25,890.- (税込) EUR 109.99 *
This book brings together insights and reflections following a set of interviews conducted with the main stakeholders involved in past, current, and future basic income experiments. It provides an analysis of some of the major elements and factors influencing experiments, as well of some of their most important outputs understood as results of their own experimental design, their sociological and political basis, and the epistemological status of their results.By pursuing a bottom-up strategy, where the interviews conducted take a pivotal role in the collection and analysis phase of the book, this book gathers key questions relating to policy experiments. Some questions reflected upon include the general idea of why one should engage and implement a basic income experiment, and the paradox consisting in the fact that most basic income experiments fall short of being closely considered "pure" basic income schemes. In facing the question and the paradox head-on, the book assesses questions of experimental design, the political and social context surrounding the policy, and the main results and what can they tell us about basic income.

Soziale Sicherungssysteme im Umbruch: Beitraege zur sozial-oekologischen Transformation. (Die Wirtschaft der Gesellschaft 7) 214 S. 2021:9 (Metropolis, GW) <669-424>
ISBN 978-3-7316-1484-5 paper ¥5,837.- (税込) EUR 24.80
Whelan, Joe,
Hidden Voices: Lived Experiences in the Irish Welfare Space. (Key Issues in Social Justice) 152 pp. 2022:5 (Policy Pr., UK) <669-425>
ISBN 978-1-4473-6092-6 hard ¥24,216.- (税込) GB£ 85.00 *
Underpinned by the idea of the right to a 'basic minimum', welfare states are a major feature of many societies. However, the lived experiences of persons seeking and receiving welfare payments can often be overlooked. This book seeks to remedy this omission by honouring lived experience as valuable, insightful and necessary. It draws on qualitative interviews with 19 people receiving various working age welfare payments in Ireland to explore stigma, social reciprocity and the notions of the deserving and undeserving poor, and to analyse welfare conditionality in the Irish context. Breaking new ground, this book offers original research findings which contest and inform policy both within Ireland and beyond.
