Sustainability Management in the Oil and Gas Industry: Emerging and Developing Country Perspectives. (Routledge Studies in the Economics of Business and Industry) 320 pp. 2023:6 (Routledge, UK) <695-512>
ISBN 978-1-03-231461-7 hard ¥38,461.- (税込) GB£ 135.00 *
The oil and gas industry is a complex sector with significant reach in terms of providing the energy needs of the global economy and the security, environmental and development consequences thereof. In particular, the sector is extremely important for the economic growth of emerging markets and developing countries. Furthermore, the life span of oil and gas resources is finite, with high health and safety risks and substantial environmental costs that require careful management and sustainability practices to ensure optimal extraction and utilisation of these resources. This book examines the challenges and opportunities in the oil and gas industry, in the context of emerging markets and developing economies. It provides comprehensive coverage of the management and sustainability practices of the sector, the environmental impact and sustainability of resources as well as the businesses that operate in the sector across the entire value chain. It addresses the current discourse on topics such as the Sustainable Development Goals, the Green Economy, the Paris Agreement and Glasgow Climate Pact and concludes with a chapter on the future of the oil and gas industry. The discussions around energy and energy transitions in particular continue to gain momentum and the book provides a wide-reaching and up-to-date overview of the industry. The book introduces readers to the concepts and formal models of analysis in the oil and gas sector and will serve as a useful resource for students, scholars and researchers in operations, marketing, procurement and supply chain management, project management, health and safety management, environmental economics, natural resource economics, development finance, and development studies. Researchers and practitioners working in these areas will also find the book a useful reference material.

Electronic Procurement of Transportation Services: An Evaluation Concept for Electronic Transportation Marketplaces. (Schriftenreihe der HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management) 310 pp. 2023:3 (Springer Gabler, GW) <695-542>
ISBN 978-3-658-40402-4 paper ¥21,182.- (税込) EUR 89.99 *
This book deals with the electronic procurement of transportation services. It provides an overview of the fundamentals for the procurement of transportation services, including the relevant objectives, involved parties, and processes. A focus is set on Electronic Transportation Marketplaces (ETMs) which offer main functionalities for the procurement of transportation services on the spot and contract market as well as additional functionalities to improve further processes (e.g., time-slot management). Even though such marketplaces are important from an economic and ecological perspective, previous research provides only little knowledge about the status quo of their use, the determinants of marketplace use and the link between this use and business value. To close these research gaps, Philipp Sylla builds a comprehensive conceptual research framework and conducts an empirical analysis based on a web survey of shippers in Germany. The empirical results build the foundation for the development of an evaluation concept that provides practical support for shippers in the assessment of marketplace use and the evaluation of potential business value impacts.

Capitalizing Your Technology to Disrupt and Dominate Your Markets: Transforming Cost Centers to Innovation Centers. 192 pp. 2023:6 (Routledge, UK) <695-648>

Every business today has some technology as part of its strategy. Inevitably, it is becoming harder for many CEOs to effectively lead their R&D efforts at the same time that their investment in tech keeps growing. Even startup founders can find themselves flustered when trying to understand whether a particular issue is genuinely impossible to solve, getting the team to provide reliable estimates, and having their top tech leaders speak in plain words as opposed to jargon. This book helps them bridge the culture gap between the C-suite and R&D, covers frequent tech-related decisions and issues, and provides a way to unlock tech as an offensive weapon and a strategic differentiator. To create an environment where technology is not merely an execution mechanism but acts as a fulcrum for strategic opportunities, one must put a particular leadership team in place and equip them with digital literacy.Based on the author's experience and discussions with hundreds of executives worldwide, he short-circuits common failure patterns and enables nontechnical senior leaders to act with more certainty and clarity regarding their tech efforts. Startups and tech efforts initiated without enough understanding of the technical aspects often have to be scrapped and started from scratch within 18 months. This can make or break certain endeavors, and as the author has helped his clients avoid these problems, the book will help the readers establish a sturdy foundation to work from. This book covers clear guidelines for founders, executives, and senior leaders that are not tech-savvy. These include establishing a tech organization, making the first key hires, assessing the relevance and risk involved in different options, and creating a healthy connection as opposed to a tech silo. On top of that, it will include lessons and case studies that stem from experience in the "Startup Nation," such as how to inject chutzpah into daily discussions and create an organization with habitual innovation.

Isn't It Obvious? 232 pp. 2023:6 (Routledge, UK) <695-649>

This book does for retailing what Goldratt's international bestseller The Goal did for manufacturing.A breakthrough solution is exposed when some unexpected events force Caroline and Paul, a married couple working for their family's retail business, to make a few small changes in the way things are done. A solution that propels the family's regional chain of stores into a very profitable, rapidly growing, international enterprise. If there is a hint of Jonah, from The Goal, reappearing in this novel, it is Henry, the soon-to-retire president and majority owner of the company who logically states that, "if you do not deal directly with the core problem, don't expect significant improvement." Eli Goldratt's Theory of Constraints is woven throughout this book but answers are not handed to you. The reader and the characters in the book work through the process together to discover solutions.Dr Goldratt deals with core problems inherent in the retail industry: The inability to forecast future demand accurately enough A very long supply time (often much longer than anyone thinks it is) Retailers purchasing too few of some items and too many of others The way today's approach to logistics is forcing the inventory that is in the supply chain to be unavailable where and when it is neededThe elegant but simple solutions give the reader that sensation that followers love about Goldratt: "Ah-ha! Now I get it!" And that's when Goldratt says: "Isn't It Obvious?"

Business Research: An Illustrative Guide to Practical Methodological Applications in Selected Case Studies. 428 pp. 2023:4 (Palgrave Macmillan, UK) <695-650>
ISBN 978-981-19-9478-4 hard ¥21,182.- (税込) EUR 89.99
This book focuses on research methodologies that apply to business research, particularly for researchers and managers embarking thereon to support managerial decision-making in the industry. In doing so, the book's objective is to guide business researchers in identifying, defining, and applying rigorous academic methodologies that will enable them to formulate, design, and execute effective research that answers their specific management problems. Such guidance can empower organizational managers to understand that business research can contribute to practical solutions to actual problems experienced in the industry. In addition, by emphasizing the integrative nature between (1) academic research and (2) experienced industry problems, it becomes possible to foster an awareness of such research's potential impact on organizational performance management, sustainability, and resilience. With that, attention is given to narrowing the gap between theory and practice, which requires that fundamentals of scientific research be adhered to while maintaining the delicate balance between a practice-friendly guide to pragmatically sound and academically rigorous business research.

This book discusses the up-and-coming blockchain technology in a structured way from the conceptual, technological, and business perspectives, thereby providing the integrated insight that is essential for truly understanding blockchain applications and their impact. While most people may know about blockchain from Bitcoin and news about its price in the financial markets, blockchain is a technology that increasingly permeates the way in which modern businesses operate. However, its dynamics and functioning remain obscure for most people. This book gives readers the tools to understand the full extent to which blockchain technology is or can be used in business. First, the book focuses on the functioning of blockchain systems, introducing basic concepts such as transactions, consensus mechanisms, and smart contracts, as well as giving a smooth introduction to the basic features of cryptography that underpin blockchain technology, e.g., digital signatures and hashing. Then, the book focuses on specific blockchain platforms (Bitcoin, Ethereum, private blockchain platforms) currently used for the implementation of cryptocurrencies and other blockchain systems. Finally, it introduces a set of tools to understand and analyze the suitability of blockchain technology in different business scenarios from the business model, and business operation perspectives. Examples and case studies of blockchain applications currently in production are discussed extensively across the book. This book targets students and educators with an interest in blockchain technology providing a one-stop shop to obtain a deep and complete insight in blockchain technology and its applicability in different business scenarios. The textbook is designed primarily for third and fourth year undergraduate students in industrial engineering, business and management, and information systems. However, it can be adopted also in the computer science majors, since it does not strictly require any specific pre-requisite knowledge. At the graduate level, this book can be used in courses for industrial engineering, information systems, and management students. Finally, the book is also of interest to practitioners, like business analysts, process analysts, and information system architects, to understand the enabling and transformative potential of blockchain in a given business scenario.

Digital Entertainment as Next Evolution in Service Sector: Emerging Digital Solutions in Reshaping Different Industries. 255 pp. 2023:3 (Palgrave Macmillan, UK) <695-653>
ISBN 978-981-19-8120-3 hard ¥37,660.- (税込) EUR 159.99
The book showcases research on digital entertainment solutions in different sectors. In recent years, digital media have evolved to include bandwidth-rich, smart, and connected platforms accessed via computers, tablets, smart phones, social media, and video game consoles. The high connectivity and vast processing capacity of these platforms have allowed for platform-agnostic, streaming, always-on, entertainment-on-demand consumption of digital content in a way distinct from traditional models of entertainment consumption. Moving beyond the unilateral delivery of content, with fixed positions of the entertainers and the entertained, digital entertainment is now dynamically generated by users and providers, blurring the boundary between producers and consumers of entertainment. With the increasing accessibility of multimodal media that surround audiences with sensory-rich information, digital entertainment is becoming more immersive.

With AI, cryptocurrency, and more in the news, it seems that being an entrepreneur means being in IT, but humanities graduates are launching new businesses every day, turning a profit and having social impact. This book explores how a humanities background can enable entrepreneurs to thrive. Across all levels of education, students are given the message that to change the world - or make money - the arts and humanities are not the subjects to study. At the same time, discussions of innovation and entrepreneurship highlight the importance of essential skills, such as critical thinking, storytelling, cultural awareness, and ethical decision-making. Here's the disconnect: the subjects that help to develop these vital skills are derided at critical points in any aspiring entrepreneur's education. This collection of perspectives from entrepreneurs in a range of fields and humanities educators illustrates what individuals, and the wider world, are missing when humanities are overlooked as a source of inspiration and success in business. Featuring a foreword by Sensemaking author Christian Madsbjerg, this is a thought-provoking guide for aspiring entrepreneurs in all sectors, and for educators, a window on the practical value of the humanities in an ever more mechanized world._

Tech SEO Guide provides a reference for everyone who works on the technical side of SEO. SEO has always had a technical component but over the last several years, the technical challenges are increasing as websites deliver richer and more engaging experiences. Given how important organic search rankings can be for a website’s traffic, it is more important than ever to make sure the technical fundamentals are in place to support a website’s SEO performance.SEO professionals includes marketers, developers, programmers, UX professionals, designers, and business executives because technical SEO impacts and overlaps with so many different areas of a business. Because the book addresses a wider audience, it provides technical details but also includes higher-level discussions about how search engines and robots work too. Multicriteria Location Analysis. (International Series in Operations Research & Management Science 338) 250 pp. 2023:5 (Springer, GW) <695-656>
ISBN 978-3-031-23875-8 hard ¥25,890.- (税込) EUR 109.99 *
This book applies Multicriteria Decision Making (MCDM) tools and techniques to problems in location analysis. It begins with a generic model for MCDM and subsequently develops specific versions of the technique for particular location problems. Throughout the book, MCDM is understood to encompass all tools and techniques that choose or rank existing or feasible solutions, including discrete multi-attribute decision making (MADM) problems, which typically include an attribute table that specifies the consequences of each decision with regard to the given criteria, as well as multi-objective linear problems (MOLPs), which incorporate all objectives in a single optimization problem. The book is organized as follows: the first four chapters introduce readers to the basic tools and techniques used in single-objective optimization, multicriteria decision making, location analysis, and other tools, such as statistical regression and geographical information systems. This is followed by ten chapters on model applications, each of which introduces readers to a specific location problem and applies one technique to solve it. The book is then wrapped up in a closing chapter that looks at the location process from a practitioner’s point of view. This book is intended as a textbook for upper-undergraduate and master-level courses on location analysis. It will also benefit decision-makers who actually need to locate facilities.

Academic Spin-offs: The Role of Routinized Behaviours in New Venture Success. 141 pp. 2023:3 (Palgrave Macmillan, UK) <695-657>
ISBN 978-3-031-22283-2 hard ¥35,306.- (税込) EUR 149.99
This book discusses the importance of developing routininized behaviours in new venture development, specifically highlighting the unique challenges that academic spin-offs face in this vital step towards successful business creation. During the early development stage, new ventures are informally established and have few routines that inform organizational performance. However, the process of new venture development is characterized by high ambiguity, for example entrepreneurs have to deal with ill-defined technologies that are only vaguely understood or delineated. They also need to gradually make sense of the connections between technological functions, customer preferences and market structures. At the same time, during the early stage of new start-ups, experiences tend to be personal, embodied in specific individuals, such as the founder of founding team. Benefiting from these experiences and developing successful businesses that can exist independently of these individuals requires that these experiences become embedded in the form of routines. The author argues that developing these routines, or 'routinizing behaviours,' plays a critical role in the process of adaptation, learning, and ultimately, success. Focusing on these routinizing behaviours in particular, the book presents primary and empirical research on the specific challenges that academic spin-offs face and delivers a framework for the routinization of behaviours, demonstrating the challenges and opportunities that can intervene in this process. Finally, the author brings together implications that academics and practitioners can take and apply in their own ventures.

Project Management: Leading Change in the Age of Complexity. 233 pp. 2023:3 (Springer, GW) <695-658>
ISBN 978-3-031-25030-9 paper ¥15,297.- (税込) EUR 64.99
This book represents an excellent opportunity for understanding project management in its new form for professionals, undergraduate and post-graduate students, and people willing to prepare the Project Management Professional (PMI-PMP (R)) exam. The distinctive feature of this book consists in the approach, very pragmatic and rich in practical examples. In particular, there are several "myth" and "bad idea" boxes where common problematic scenarios that a project manager can find in its everyday working life are discussed and solved according to the book's contents. In addition, the book includes several original explanations of some business phenomena, such as the "Leadership of the nun", "The gardener project manager", "The hamster", "the change-order dragon" and others. Last but not least, it explores several concepts that aren't included into most of project management books, such as Sustainability in triple bottom line, Management for Stakeholders and social network analysis, and an extensive part on complexity. The last part of the book is dedicated to concepts that are not properly part of project management, but are relevant for a project manager to be aware of in order to be able to interface with colleagues and partners belonging to these contiguous business worlds.

Eli Goldratt is known by millions of readers worldwide as a scientist, educator and business guru. His Theory of Constraints (TOC) is taught at business schools and MBA programs around the globe. Government agencies and businesses, large and small, have adopted his methodologies. TOC has been successfully applied in almost every area of human endeavor, from industry to healthcare to education. And while Eli Goldratt is indeed a scientist, an educator and a business leader, he is first and foremost a philosopher; some say a genius. He is a thinker who provokes others to do the same.In The Choice, Goldratt once again presents his thought-provoking approach, this time through a conversation with his daughter, Efrat, as they discuss his fundamental system of beliefs. Through examples and discussions, Eli Goldratt helps us understand, holistically, how the interrelation of emotions, intuition and logic influences our ability to think clearly and problem solve when making personal and professional decisions. Can every conflict be removed? Is every situation exceedingly simple? (no matter how complex it initially looks) Can every situation be substantially improved? Is there always a win-win solution?Dr. Goldratt exhorts his readers to examine and reassess their lives and business practices by cultivating a different perspective and a clear new vision. This revised edition includes Efrat's Notes - these notes and logical maps are helpful tools that assist in visualizing and implementing the thoughts and ideas expressed throughout this book.

This book is about the "benefits of inconvenience (BoI)", providing a new approach to designing innovative systems and opening an alternative viewpoint to readers for looking at the world. BoI says that convenient living has “black boxed” the processes we used to rely on, while BoI is about looking at the benefits that were originally provided by these actions that have been black-boxed. Consider the relationship between humans and artificial objects, or things, newly created by engineering technology. In the past, things were “extensions” of people, but before we knew it, things began to substitute for people. BoI can be a keyword for thinking about the relationship that should come after “substitution”. It is a principle of systems design, one that requires time and effort rather than being convenient without any bother. Leading system scientists, technology creators, service producers, and product designers have contributed to this volume. In the first half of the book, many researchers describe their theory of BoI from the perspectives of systems engineers, value engineers, designers, and innovators. In the second half of the book, examples of implementing BoI are introduced in various fields, such as product design, service design, social robotics, tourism engineering, and human activity support systems. They will support innovations in systems or services. It is generally said that necessity is the mother of invention. In that belief, inconveniences should be eliminated, which can be a motive force for new technological development. On the other hand, this book shows that inconveniences are not something to be eliminated, but, on the contrary, are essential to obtain some benefit, and shows us how to create beneficial inconveniences.

The Toyota Economic System: How Leaders Create True Prosperity Through Financial Congruency, Dignity of Work, and Environmental Stewardship. 272 pp. 2023:6 (Productivity Pr., US) <695-664>
ISBN 978-1-03-239153-3 hard ¥34,188.- (税込) GB£ 120.00 *
ISBN 978-1-03-239152-6 paper ¥9,968.- (税込) GB£ 34.99 *
This book analyzes the purpose and relationship between the different elements of the Toyota Production System (TPS) and how they add up to an economic system rather than just a production system that brings engineering and managerial solutions to businesses. It argues how TPS can be viewed as a science as opposed to a tool-based technique. Our society faces unprecedented economic, social, and environmental challenges. Thankfully, TPS offers solutions. These solutions are born out of Toyota's dissatisfaction with simple cost-benefit analyses and trade-offs. It challenges the antiquated model of economies of scale and radical individual asset efficiency. The Toyota Production System offers technical and managerial innovations that eliminate pre-existing financial, socio-economic, and environmental contradictions. The result is congruency between several factors and agents of our society that have conflicted in the past. Specifically, TPS does the following: Financially, TPS creates congruency between the Income Statement and the Statement of Cash Flow by pursuing total instead of individual efficiency. Socio-managerially, TPS reconciles the creative nature of people with the mundane requirements of modern industrial work by re-introducing craftsmanship into industrial operation. Economically, TPS lessens the conflicts between economic growth and environmental stewardship by eliminating, unevenness, overburden, and waste instead of only chasing economies of scale. These innovations bring financial benefits to the corporation, social benefits to the workers, and economic and environmental benefits to society at large. Each benefit supports the others as opposed to itself individually. The result is true instead of apparent efficiency. This is measurable, repeatable, and worth making into a scientific discipline, which can be taught and applied more widely not just to business haphazardly, but systematically to the broader aspects of our economies.

Entrepreneurship in the Creative Industries: How Innovative Agents, Skills and Networks Interact. 270 pp. 2023:3 (Palgrave Macmillan, UK) <695-669>
ISBN 978-3-031-19454-2 hard ¥30,598.- (税込) EUR 129.99 *
This books provides a critical perspective on entrepreneurialism in the creative industries. Split into three sections, the book first asks the contextual question; why, at this point in time, did we arrive at such a focus on entrepreneurship in the creative industries? Examining the historical, social, cultural, economic and political background, the book places the creative industries and entrepreneurship firmly within a systemic approach to creativity and cultural production. Given this emphasis on entrepreneurship in the creative system, the second part of the book asks, what do those who want to work in the creative industries need to do to pragmatically gain an income? The practices, skills, business models and plans necessary to master in order to successfully run a business are explored in this section. The final section contains detailed case studies that reveal the lives of those who found a way to successfully gain an income in the creative industries. It highlights the practical knowledge they gathered, how they negotiated their field of endeavour, and the decisions they made in the real world.Fundamentally the book answers three questions: How and why did we get here? Given that we are here at this point in time, how do we go about being entrepreneurial? And who has managed to do this in the creative industries and how did they do it? Covering both theoretical debates in detail, and practical case studies in key sub-sectors of creative industries, this truly integrative and far-reaching volume will be of interest to students, researchers and practitioners alike.

Macro-level dynamics and modelling are well represented in the mainstream political risk literature. However, not many writings on the subject get their hands dirty in terms of revealing the hard, nuanced and practical work behind knowing what the issues might be for a specific foreign operation in a sensitive or volatile context, and how to plan for them.Political Risk Intelligence for Business Operations in Complex Environments provides international managers, and by extension their organisations, with a foundational understanding of political risk analysis and planning for on-the-ground operations in challenging times and places. This means having a fluid grasp of what political risk means and why it matters in the organisation's context, and how relevant intelligence can be gathered and analysed to inform decisions and planning towards an operation's socio-political resilience. The book explains:How and why political risk manifests and the forms it can take Company attitudes and operational attributes as a political risk variable Understanding the operational implications of socio-political dynamics and trends Stakeholder identification and analysis for informed engagement planning Scenario analysis to prepare for long-term contingencies and discontinuities Holistic, intelligence-driven political risk management planning Tactical intelligence exercises to maintain awareness and inform adaptation Intelligence management, collection and quality controlEthical considerations in political risk management Rather than being bound by conventional notions of risk, the book emphasises the dynamic relationship between a foreign operation and its host environment and milieu as a source of both challenges and opportunities to manage them. Concepts, frameworks and practices are rounded out with real-world examples and relevant lessons from the author's experience as a political risk consultant.

The 2022 World Economic Forum surveyed 1,000 experts and leaders who indicated their risk perception that the earth's conditions for humans are a main concern in the next 10 years. This means environmental risks are a priority to study in a formal way. At the same time, innovation risks are present in theminds of leaders, newknowledge brings new risk, and the adaptation and adoption of risk knowledge is required to better understand the causes and effects can have on technological risks. These opportunities require not only adopting new ways of managing and controlling emerging processes for society and business, but also adapting organizations to changes and managing new risks.Risk Analytics: Data-Driven Decisions Under Uncertainty introduces a way to analyze and design a risk analytics system (RAS) that integrates multiple approaches to risk analytics to deal with diverse types of data and problems. A risk analytics system is a hybrid system where human and artificial intelligence interact with a data gathering and selection process that uses multiple sources to the delivery of guidelines to make decisions that include humans and machines. The RAS system is an integration of components, such as data architecture with diverse data, and a risk analytics process and modeling process to obtain knowledge and then determine actions through the new knowledge that was obtained. The use of data analytics is not only connected to risk modeling and its implementation, but also to the development of the actionable knowledge that can be represented by text in documents to define and share explicit knowledge and guidelines in the organization for strategy implementation. This book moves from a review of data to the concepts of a RAS. It reviews RAS system components required to support the creation of competitive advantage in organizations through risk analytics. Written for executives, analytics professionals, risk management professionals, strategy professionals, and postgraduate students, this book shows a way to implement the analytics process to develop a risk management practice that creates an adaptive competitive advantage under uncertainty.

Technology, Business and Sustainable Development: Advances for People, Planet and Profit. (The Annals of Business Research) 248 pp. 2023:6 (Routledge, UK) <695-679>
ISBN 978-1-03-227528-4 hard ¥38,461.- (税込) GB£ 135.00 *
Triple bottom line (TBL or 3BL) was coined as a wide and inspiring approach for businesses aimed at understanding how to create, track, and manage economic, social, and environmental values added. The sustainability sector is strongly increasing its relevance among academics and practitioners, and the market opportunities associated with the sustainable development goals (SDGs) are estimated at over $12 trillion per year by 2030. Although this is a promising context, a recent article suggested a rethinking of the TBL, arguing that sustainability goals' value should not be assessed in terms of profit and loss but of people well-being and planet health, looking for a societal profit. Technology plays a crucial role in our society. Respectively, the Agenda 21 and the Paris Agreement consider technology to be essential in the pursuit of sustainable development and the achievement of the SDGs. Adding to this, the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of digital solutions in several fields, from the way of working to the way of buying and consuming. Companies are becoming more aware of the responsibility they have within environmental and human contexts, and people are looking for work reflecting their values and purposes to motivate them. This book aims to contribute to the understanding of the role of technology and its emerging and innovative solutions in the achievement of sustainable development while making a profit. It will be of value to researchers, academics, practitioners, and students in the fields of strategic management, entrepreneurship, management of technology and innovation, and sustainable development.

This open access book investigates an entrepreneurial approach to building new theories. It provides a rich understanding of how specific tools facilitate aspects of the theorizing process and offers a clearer big picture of the process of building important new entrepreneurship theories. The authors show that anthropomorphizing has been a critically important tool for developing influential entrepreneurship theories. They reveal how scholars build on their rich and highly accessible understanding of humans (i.e., the self and others) to make guesses and sense of entrepreneurial anomalies, articulate theoretical mechanisms to build more robust entrepreneurship theories, and create plausible stories that facilitate sensegiving. Further, they offer a frameworkthat guides entrepreneurship scholars in finding a balance to maximize their contributions and guides reviewers and editors in managing the revise-and-resubmit process to advance the entrepreneurship field. Finally, they present lean scholarship as an approach to developing a portfolio of high-quality, high-impact papers. Lean scholarship starts with an entrepreneurial mindset and involves creating a minimum viable paper, exploring its validity, adding a plausible paper to one's portfolio, and managing the portfolio by periodically deciding whether to persevere, pivot, or terminate each paper. This seminal work will appeal to entrepreneurship researchers, both those new to the field as well as seasoned veterans, who want to learn more about the tools that can be used to generate new knowledge about new ventures and other entrepreneurship topics.

Building a Software Company: How to Drive Business Value Through Software. 100 pp. 2023:6 (Apress, US) <695-681>
ISBN 978-1-4842-9168-9 paper ¥8,235.- (税込) EUR 34.99
There is a call to action reverberating in company boardrooms, earnings calls, technology conferences, and IT departments: every company should be a software company. The call makes intuitive sense. Software, when done right, creates infinite business leverage. It is not a coincidence that 7 out of 10 largest companies in the world are software companies. But how does a company become a software company? This book will help enterprises transform into a software company. The software-driven future that Marc Andreessen predicted in his now-famous 2011 essay is here but unevenly distributed. While enterprises, and teams within, grasp the software technologies, they lack the context to leverage them ? much less understand the fundamental principles that drive the business value from software: What is the real essence of the software-based transformation? If every enterprise is implementing the same technologies, what is the source of differentiation? How do you manage the inherent complexity of software such that it doesn't destroy software's value? How do you build and nurture talent so that it is empowered to create the best solutions for your customers' problems? This book will answer all of that and more. The boundary between enterprise and consumer software is rapidly blurring. IEEE reports that 40% of the cost of a new car comes from software . Elsewhere, software is becoming synonymous with medical devices and therapeutics . FinTech and EdTech trends are primarily about personalization through software at an internet-scale. The struggling enterprises are up against it. They have no choice but to figure out how to ship consumer-grade software. It is an existential problem for them. This book compiles the timeless principles of building good software, yet often disregarded while building and deploying software products for enterprises. What You'll LearnLeverage people to build creative software solutions Manage development complexity so that we keep software focused on user problems Understand software technology as a means of producing value Who This Book Is ForEnterprise Executive Management, Enterprise IT Management Professionals, Software Practitioners within Enterprise

Female Solo-Entrepreneurs: Coping Strategies for Handling the Challenges and Double Burden of Business and Private Life. (BestMasters) 178 pp. 2023:1 (Springer VS, GW) <695-682>
ISBN 978-3-658-40335-5 paper ¥21,182.- (税込) EUR 89.99
Austria's economy is characterized through small and medium sized enterprises. Solo entrepreneurs are considered a special form within SMEs and contribute a major share to Austrian's economy besides being Austria's most popular legal form of organization within the micro firms. In 2020 every second of Carinthia's start-up businesses was established by a female entrepreneur. According to an entrepreneurship study presented by Volksbank in 2019, nearly half of all female entrepreneurs lived with children and juveniles. Two-thirds of women said they were solely responsible for family, childcare, and household and 71 percent of those female entrepreneurs specified that those circumstances caused difficulties for them. This book investigated Carinthian female solo entrepreneurs and aims to find out how these hard-working women manage their business and private life while contributing to such great extent to the (federal) state's economy. The conceptual foundations were found in embeddednessand the contextual framework which supports the importance of numerous influences on different levels placed on the entrepreneur. The empirical section represents a primary research that evaluates self-collected data sets of Carinthian solo-entrepreneurs.

Filled with stories of successful social change leadership in diverse contexts, this book demonstrates that the best change agents love the people involved most of all. Many people have experienced change trauma under leaders whose agenda was more important than anything-or anyone-else, so it is no wonder that change failure rates are often reported as 40% to 70%. There is another way: change leaders who work to solve some of the world's toughest problems realize that working with others is necessary to accomplishing a social change mission. This book shares the insights of those who lead social change in the non-profit sector, and shows how they catalyze the urgency for, connect people toward, and continue momentum for a desired change. Their stories reveal three interconnected dimensions of leading change: people (relationships for change), process (communicating for change), and purpose (the change mission). Ultimately, readers will learn that strengthening social capital (people), centering marginal voices (process), and aligning stakeholders to the change mission (purpose) are critical to the work of change agents who value relationships.Leveraging well-known models and elevating little-heard voices, this book flips the script of conventional leadership books by focusing on non-profit social change leaders rather than business titans. Students, managers, and leaders across sectors will value these new insights, along with a relationally focused process and strategy for leading change and practical tips and recommendations for implementation.
