Foundations of a Sustainable Market Economy: Guiding Principles for Change. 180 pp. 2023:8 (Palgrave Macmillan, UK) <704-170>
ISBN 978-3-031-28185-3 paper ¥12,943.- (税込) EUR 54.99 *
The free market underpins our economy and our way of thinking around enterprise and value, but it is also a major factor in the sustainability problems that we now live with. Climate change, child labour and oil spills are just a few of the many problems associated with our economic activity and, although many companies have made an effort to produce more sustainably, the pace of change is much too slow. This engaging and accessible textbook teaches students the relationship between the economy and sustainability, assessing the hand of the free market on company behaviour and, ultimately, providing a framework for transition to a sustainable economy.Using case studies and optional assessment questions, this textbook explains to students what a market is at the macro level and then translates the effects of the market to industries and subsequently to the strategic choices of companies at the micro level. It adopts a model of 8 guiding principlesthat underpin the current free market economy and 8 guiding principles for the sustainable market economy. Switching these deeply held principles will be essential to any serious transition to a sustainable economy.

Innovation Ecosystems in the New Economic Era: Digital Revolution and Ecological Transition. (Business and Innovation 31) 384 pp. 2023 (P. Lang, SZ) <704-298>
ISBN 978-2-87574-524-8 paper ¥15,731.- (税込) SFR 63.00 *
Digital technologies are revolutionizing global economy, modes of production and consumption, at individual and collective levels. Nevertheless, involved socio-economic models can be often incompatible with major challenges faced by humanity, notably environmental crisis and climate change that warn about the end of a linear growth model which aimed at "produce, consume and throw away", in order to move towards an economic development that tends to limit the waste of resources and environmental impact. For that purpose, innovation should be responsible and at the service of a more sustainable development. This apparent contradiction between digital production forces and bio-climatic issues can be questioned by the emergence of innovation ecosystems. At their center, new technologies constitute drivers for solving problems of degradation of nature, food, and survival of species. In this perspective, the questions addressed in this book focus on the beneficial interactions between digital technologies and environmental challenges. Both of them shape the edges of a new socio-economic era. The authors of this book detail the paradigm of this new economic, industrial and corporate era that emphasizes investments in innovation, R&D and aggregation of expertise, skills and knowledge through innovation digital ecosystems to supporting digital revolution and ecological transition.

Leadership and Organisational Effectiveness Post-COVID-19: Exploring the New Normal. 227 pp. 2023:6 (Palgrave Macmillan, UK) <704-300>
ISBN 978-3-031-32762-9 hard ¥35,306.- (税込) EUR 149.99
This book considers the idea that existing leadership theories have arisen as a result of significant disruption in work structure. The authors argue that the Covid-19 pandemic provided such a disruption and an opportunity to reconceptualise leadership. In order to capture this opportunity and conceptualise new leadership theories, it is first necessary to understand what happened in the past, during the pandemic, and examine the future of work. Addressing three critical issues in leadership, the authors firstly present a framework that helps us understand and enact leadership in the 'new normal.' Parts 1 and 2 of the book address the past and current forms of leadership in the context of COVID-19. The book goes on to consider the lessons learned from COVID-19 in the context of the U.N Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). The targets of SDGs 7 - 17 refer to the need for organisations to operate responsibly; they call for organisations to review their operations processes and to define effective performance using triple-bottom-line measures comprising economic, social and environmental measures. Since leadership plays a significant role in achieving these goals, the book includes chapters on efficiency in process design and operation, definition and implementation of the triple-bottom-line measures and ethical behaviours. Finally, the book explores how the current process of leadership development falls short in today's context and calls for the need to develop effective leadership mindsets

Vulnerability and the Corporate Immune System: An Integrated and Systemic Approach to Risk Management. 239 pp. 2023:6 (Palgrave Macmillan, UK) <704-304>
ISBN 978-3-031-30253-4 hard ¥35,306.- (税込) EUR 149.99
Companies are exposed to a large number of risks from different sources such as globalization, deregulation, environmental changes, technological changes, complicated financial models, and corporate governance changes. Parallel to this, various studies recognize enterprise risk management (ERM) as a new method of organizational control. With the spread of ERM frameworks, this book links the themes of risk to decision-making and strategic processes, moving from the issue of vulnerability in order to increase awareness that risk management cannot be entrusted to fulfillment. Instead, risk management must increasingly be an integral part of the company's decision-making and strategic processes. This book develops an innovative approach to the theme of risk following a business-economic analysis perspective related to the creation of economic value. Traditionally, the issue of risk has been widely explored with regard to finance and financial markets. In this book, risk managementas a managerial process will be investigated in order to explore the link between risk and business strategies. Integrating risk assessment methodologies with managerial tools with which business entities can build value to protect their positioning and to enhance their economic and financial standing, this book will be of interest to students and researchers of risk management.

Preparing for a Sustainable Future. (Approaches to Global Sustainability, Markets, and Governance) 249 pp. 2023:8 (Springer, GW) <704-305>
ISBN 978-981-9924-55-4 hard ¥40,014.- (税込) EUR 169.99 *
The term sustainability has become one of the most significant in the current era. It seems to be ubiquitous amongst academics, politicians, business leaders, media personnel and even the general public. It is no exaggeration to state that it is considered all over the world to be the most pressing issue to be addressed for the long-term future of the planet and its inhabitants. The topic is of course complex, and the issue of sustainability is under much debate as to what it actually is and how it can be achieved, but it is completely certain that the resources of the planet are fixed in quantity and, once used, cannot be reused except through being reused in one form or another. At present, much of the discourse of sustainability has focused upon the environment and in particular upon climate change and the effects that this is having. Thus, the discourse has tended to be about mitigation.Sustainability of course requires all three pillars of the triple bottom line-economic, environmental and social-to be addressed. Indeed, it might be considered that the effects upon the social, and how we choose to live our lives, might well be the most profound effect of achieving sustainability. This book therefore focuses upon some of the many aspects of the social and how we can adapt our lives to accommodate the requirements of sustainability. it therefore takes a very different approach to addressing the issues of sustainability, while of course not ignoring the other pillars. This book therefore sets out to examine various aspects of the changes to personal, corporate and institutional behaviour which may have to come about in our search for sustainability. It is tended to address some of the issues and how they are being dealt with in various parts of the world. As always, our concept is to share best practice and thereby enrich both the discourse and our progress towards sustainability. Thus, we focus upon the current situation while also considering the extent to which the focus is changing so much that we need to think about new approaches to our understanding of behaviour and differing effects in practice. The international origins of the contributors to this book make this an original contribution taking some of the best ideas from around the world. This book therefore addresses these issues from a perspective not generally addressed by researchers, or even by politicians and the press. It therefore provides fresh perspectives upon the important issue of our common future. As always, this approach is based on the tradition of the Social Responsibility Research Network srrnet.org (a worldwide body of scholars with membership of several thousand), which in its 20-year history has sought to broaden the discourse and to treat all research as inter-related and relevant to business. This tradition has always been to explore the subject widely and to seek relevant solutions, while also sharing best practice. This book is based primarily upon some of the contributions from the network at our recent conference and shows both commonality and diversity in approaches and effects.

A Business Leader's Guide to Philosophy. 167 pp. 2023:8 (Springer, GW) <704-306>
ISBN 978-3-031-33041-4 hard ¥17,651.- (税込) EUR 74.99
This book provides a unique introduction for business leaders to the philosophical lexicon of classical and contemporary ideas-for and against-that are relevant to business and those destined to lead it. Rather than presenting the reader with a 'philosophy of leadership' the author uses his experiences in academia and as a leader in business to illustrate the practical application of philosophical ideas and methodologies covering the art and science of being a business leader: motivating stakeholders to deliver the initial phase of a business plan for a new product or service; processing information (and risky 'hidden-information') that brings the company vision into reality; and ethically managing relationships to enhance the quality of decision-making and its outcomes. Creative aspiration, knowledge and ethical character are the three pillars of leadership. Within that construct, this book challenges leaders to seek their own path to self-development inspired by ideas that shape the ecology of capitalism and the opportunities it provides stakeholders to endow meaning and dignity to their lives through their participation in business.

ANTi-History: Theorization, Application, Critique and Dispersion. (Critical Management Studies) 132 pp. 2023:11 (Emerald, UK) <704-307>
ISBN 978-1-80455-242-1 hard ¥20,482.- (税込) US$ 95.00 *
There has been a surge of ANTi-History research over the last 15 years. ANTi-History brings together the most impactful efforts to develop, apply and critique ANTi-History in one comprehensive book. Deal, Hartt and Mills make sense of and organize the ongoing conversation around ANTi-History, using it as a lens to assess both the future and the potential of the budding field of historical organization studies and business history. They offer a systematic close reading of ANTi-History through its introduction to the field nearly two decades ago; the literatures that theorize it as an approach for 'doing history' and how others have contributed to its usefulness to scholars, practitioners, and students. In addition, they offer an exploration of the empirical research areas, settings, and contexts - especially its position within an archival zeitgeist in critical management studies - that scholars have engaged in; and the international character that it has taken across numerous countries around the world. ANTi-History revisits the debates that concern ANTi-History and its theorization of the past, identifying potential future research and unique opportunities to further advance and refine ANTi-History and critical historiography scholarship.

Digitization of economic and management processes allows for the delivery of new value and higher efficiency in the implementation of strategic goals. This is due to the inclusion of digital technologies in the existing rules of functioning among partners involved in the flow of resources, and from their readiness for digital transformation. Addressing this challenge to the readers - contributors indicate the latest theoretical advances, and practical examples in FinTech, The Internet of Things, and AI, among others. This results in a synthetic look at the complex digital transformation processes of the modern world, both in terms of the underlying causes and the vast effects of the transformations and digitization of social and economic life. Contemporary Studies in Economic and Financial Analysis publishes a series of current and relevant themed volumes within the fields of economics and finance.

ISBN 978-3-031-32308-9 hard ¥11,766.- (税込) EUR 49.99
The world's extant building stock accounts for a significant portion of worldwide energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. In 2020, buildings and construction accounted for 36% of global final energy consumption and 37% of energy related CO2 emissions. The EU estimates that up to 75% of the EU's existing building stock has poor energy performance, 85-95% of which will still be in use in 2050.To meet the goals of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change will require a transformation of construction processes and deep renovation of the extant building stock. It is widely recognized that ICTs can play an important role in construction, renovation and maintenance as well as supporting the financing of deep renovation. Technologies such as sensors, big data analytics and machine learning, BIM, digital twinning, simulation, robots, cobots and UAVs, and additive manufacturing are transforming the deep renovation process, improving sustainability performance, and developing new services and markets. This open access book defines a deep renovation digital ecosystem for the 21st century, providing a state-of-the art review of current literature, suggesting avenues for new research, and offering perspectives from business, technology and industry domains. This is an open access book.

ISBN 978-3-031-05838-7 hard ¥40,014.- (税込) EUR 169.99
This two-volume set examines the need for a consciousness-based view of leadership, which emphasizes universal human flourishing, as opposed to a resource-based view, which focuses on sustaining a competitive advantage. This approach is built around three main principles: 1) Paradigm (Consciousness is primary, including complementary existence of opposites), 2) Social/Interpersonal (focusing on empathy and compassion), and 3) Individual (experiencing Oneness and expressing creativity).Volume Two is divided into two sections. Each section offers a mix of qualitative and quantitative studies. The first section focuses on consciousness-based development of organizational capabilities such as ambidexterity, flow, and work-life balance. The second section is focused on organizational interventions such as reinvention, meaning-making, well-being, and sustainability. Aligning leadership practices with the notion of an unbounded consciousness, this edited collection will extend literature on organizational culture, leadership, and sustainability, contributing to solving the grand challenges facing humanity.

The New Era of Global Services: A Framework for Successful Enterprises in Business Services and IT. 348 pp. 2023:10 (Emerald, UK) <704-318>
ISBN 978-1-83753-627-6 hard ¥11,858.- (税込) US$ 55.00 *
The New Era of Global Services is the result of interviews with more than seventy international leaders. The results show that in the coming years, Global Services will tend to grow in business-to-business (B2B), business-to-consumer (B2C), peer-to-peer (P2P), an in particular peer-to-business (P2B) relationships. Deciding on locations will be a more flexible process that may include different countries, cities, and even the cloud (virtual sourcing). Therefore, an increase in delocalizing options (multi-sourcing) is expected. As a result, global labour arbitrage will create opportunities not only for secondary cities but also for cells and individuals with outstanding talents and appropriate telecommunication infrastructures. This, in turn, will foster the flourishing of companies with neither human resources of their own, nor a physical presence in a specific location. Author Javier Pena Capobianco makes a compelling case that over the coming twenty years, the companies that thrive will be those which not only embrace technology, but also generate disruptive business models in an authentic digital transformation process. However, only those who place people and their environment at the centre of their business plans will achieve true success. This is an important book for anyone involved in Global Services, as well as business students, entrepreneurs, C-suite professionals, policy makers and business academicians.

Digitization of economic and management processes allows for the delivery of new value and higher efficiency in the implementation of strategic goals. This is due to the inclusion of digital technologies in the existing rules of functioning among partners involved in the flow of resources, and from their readiness for digital transformation. A significant challenge, in practical, organizational, and scientific terms is to understand the opportunities and threats resulting from digital transformation, to identify optimal strategies for the development of business entities in new economic and management conditions, taking care to adopt collateral and proper management of new risks. Addressing this challenge to the readers - contributors indicate the latest theoretical advances, and practical examples in Moldova, Kosovo, and the BRIC countries, among others.

KAIZEN-21: The Philosophy of Continuous Improvement and Operational Innovation in the New Global Environment. (Emerald Points) 160 pp. 2023:7 (Emerald, UK) <704-322>
ISBN 978-1-80455-845-4 hard ¥12,936.- (税込) US$ 60.00 *
Since Masaki Imai connected the term KAIZEN with the world management arena in 1986, this approach has been used as a strategy for company development that is propelled by the participation and motivation of its employees. Centering the human being as the guiding axis of change and innovation, KAIZEN-21 establishes a practical and theoretical guide for organizations to easily implement this ancestral philosophy within their operational processes in the midst of the chaotic and complicated global environment of the 21st century. Presenting an updated model of guiding principles, techniques, and tools, Manuel F. Suarez Barraza demonstrates how KAIZEN can be successfully applied in the context of pandemics, supply chain crises, and regional war. Beginning with the definition and origins of KAIZEN, chapters explore 5'S, standardization (Hiojunka), SDCA and PDCA cycles, as well as process innovation and kodawari-KAIZEN, or hitosukuri (management of people), closing with techniques for improving daily work, such as the the Kata of Improvement, and the author's links with the Toyota Production System (TPS) and the Mayan work model (K'AAT-KAIZEN). If you are ready to energize your business team and revolutionize workplace practices, then KAIZEN-21 is your essential resource for prioritizing internal change and development despite all adversity.
