Social Entrepreneurship and Gandhian Thoughts in the Post-COVID World. (India Studies in Business and Economics) 378 pp. 2023:8 (Springer, GW) <708-403>
ISBN 978-981-9940-07-3 hard ¥40,014.- (税込) EUR 169.99
In this edited book, we provide foundational tenets of Gandhian perspective, and present examples of social organizations that are aiming to insulate themselves by adopting community and village-centered approaches to restructuring socially-embedded economic activities that align with Gandhian principles. These cases highlight the relevance of Gandhi's thoughts in the field of social entrepreneurship. We examine key principles such as Sarvodaya (the welfare of all), Antodaya (the upliftment of the weakest), self-sufficiency, self-reliance, Nai Talim (holistic education), and Trusteeship. We explore how social organizations implement these principles to promote resilience and well-being at the community level. The COVID-19 pandemic revealed unsustainable practices in the world, including disrupted supply chains, contagious effects of integrated global economy that ignore the local self-reliance, and unsustainable internal displacement that make cities dependent on rural labor and rural population dependent on urban areas for jobs. These issues show that there are systemic problems with how our society and market are structured. The traditional way of development that focuses on profit maximization and unlimited wants has caused problems like inequality, resource depletion, and disproportionate wealth accumulation. Unlimited growth in a limited world has led us to social, economic, and ecological crises. However, degrowth, as an approach has been criticized for wanting to go back to pre-industrial times. In this context, Gandhi's ideas offer alternatives. Gandhi promotes moderation in how market activities are structured and how individual consumption practices are followed. This can help reduce the negative impact of economic activities on people and the planet, and move towards a more structured and inclusive economy.

合理的リーダーシップ 第2版
Brooker, Paul / Hayward, Margaret,
Rational Leadership: Developing and Redeveloping Corporations. 2nd ed. 480 pp. 2023:11 (Oxford U. Pr., UK) <708-405>
ISBN 978-0-19-889464-3 hard ¥14,245.- (税込) GB£ 50.00 *
Rational leadership inspires confidence by capably using appropriate rational means, as described in the first edition of Rational Leadership. Now a second, updated edition has added eight new chapters and has looked at redevelopment as well as development. The book highlights these two important versions of rational leadership, where a rational leader is either developing or redeveloping a business corporation. Part One presents eight cases of rational leaders who have developed iconic corporations. These best-practice leaders include Sam Walton of Walmart, Meg Whitman of eBay, and Jeff Bezos of Amazon. In all eight cases, the leaders used appropriate adaptive, calculative, and deliberative methods to develop their corporations. In Part Two the authors shift the focus from development to redevelopment. Part Two presents five classic cases of rational leaders redeveloping - remedially renewing - problematic corporations. The leaders include Lou Gerstner of IBM and Steve Jobs of Apple. In all five cases the leaders used appropriate organizational tools, which transformed, reoriented, or hybridized the corporation. Both Part Two and Part One also present supplementary cases of other rational leaders developing or redeveloping a corporation. These leaders include Sheryl Sandberg, Marcel Dassault, Giorgio Armani, Anita Roddick, Satya Nadella, Carly Fiorina, Marissa Mayer, and Jack Welch. In total the authors present more than twenty supplementary or main cases of rational leadership. Most of these case studies are based on a leader's memoir and leader's-eye view, validated by additional biographical and historical sources.

ISBN 978-3-031-38574-2 hard ¥40,014.- (税込) EUR 169.99
Roadmapping is a structured visual approach for supporting strategic technology and innovation management, providing strategic navigational support (hence the "roadmap" metaphor) for technologists, designers, entrepreneurs, programme managers, executives, policy makers, other stakeholders involved in the formulation and implementation of strategy. This book brings together the latest developments in roadmapping, covering a range of practical issues and conceptual aspects. First, the book delves into the critical topic of strategic alignment within organizations, encompassing the interdependencies and synchronization of horizontal and vertical systems, connecting innovation priorities to strategic objectives, and the integration of key performance indicators. Then, the book concentrates on practical techniques and tools for roadmapping, including a template-based approach for technology venture funding. Social and digital aspects of roadmapping are explored, including workshop methods, considering how quantitative (analysis) and qualitative (expert) knowledge can be combined for improved strategic planning. Finally, a series of new case studies focusing on energy systems in Sub-Saharan Africa and Turkey illustrate the practical application of technology roadmapping and also provide useful insights. Roadmapping continues to evolve, as it is adapted to apply to new domains and strategic challenges, propagates to new sectors, and as new digital technologies such as AI emerge that radically affect strategy and innovation processes. The need for structured and engaging approaches such as roadmapping for navigating towards the future is essential.

Baldegger, Candido Borges, Fernando Dolabela, Joelle Hafsi and Francine Richer, present six fascinating case histories of three different types of agents of innovation: entrepreneurs, who create new products or services, facilitators, or process innovators, who help entrepreneurs to develop their enterprises, and intrapreneurs, who innovate within the organizations that employ them. ISBN 978-1-83797-203-6 paper ¥6,899.- (税込) US$ 32.00 *
The ebook edition of this title is Open Access and freely available to read online. Family constitutions in family-owned firms are becoming increasingly popular around the world. While some, though not much, research examining this trend has come from a management research perspective, legal scholarship of family constitutions is even scarcer. The first volume of this new series brings together chapters from the 'Law and Management of Family Firms' conference which took place at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law, Hamburg, presenting legal, managerial, historical and comparative perspectives of family constitutions. Family Firms and Family Constitution delves deeply into topics as diverse as ownership, succession, governance, justice and more, all from a managerial and legal perspective from around the world. The pioneering Law and Management of Family Firms series publishes volumes following the annual Hamburg Conference: Law and Management of Family Firms, the international and interdisciplinary forum for family business research. The conference is organized by the Max Planck Institute and the Institute for Mittelstand and Family Firms (HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration). It brings together two distinct and previously disconnected disciplines of law and management, benefiting scholars, lawyers, consultants, and family office practitioners.

Handbook of Chinese Management. 522 pp. 2023:8 (Springer, GW) <708-411>
ISBN 978-981-10-2458-0 hard ¥94,156.- (税込) EUR 399.99
This handbook explores the theme of managing inside China and consists of chapters that communicate the major managerial concepts within the context of Mainland China. Its key emphasis is to clearly highlight the differences in the art of managing in China vs. the West, while acknowledging that these differences may be narrowing as a result of globalization. Chapters in the book elaborate on how management is affected as China experiences rapid change while some aspects of Chinese culture remain unchanged and steeped in tradition. The book goes further in exploring this complexity by juxtaposing China's orientation towards interpersonal relations, or "guanxi", with the government's emphasis on law, which is now becoming more rule-based than before. Business & Management academics and practitioners will gain useful insight into Chinese management practices and their contrast to established Western ones when they use the Handbook of Chinese Management as a reference.

Delivering Entrepreneurship Education in Africa: New Perspectives. 324 pp. 2023:12 (Emerald, UK) <708-413>
ISBN 978-1-83753-327-5 hard ¥23,716.- (税込) US$ 110.00 *
Entrepreneurship education is crucial for economic development. However, its current focus on Western pedagogy raises concerns about its relevance in Africa. The lack of African-oriented definitions of entrepreneurship education may be connected to the limited interest in entrepreneurship as a career in the region. Unlike developed countries, where entrepreneurship drives innovative industries, African entrepreneurship is often driven by survivalist intentions. This raises questions about how entrepreneurship in Africa contributes to the economy without promoting creative innovation. Given these factors, evaluating the role of entrepreneurship education in this context is essential. Delivering Entrepreneurship Education in Africa brings together a collection of academic studies that offer an in-depth analysis of the current state of entrepreneurship education in Africa. The chapter authors engage discussions on how to make entrepreneurship education an attractive field of study for African students. The chapters critique the current teaching styles of entrepreneurship and suggests creative ways of improving entrepreneurship pedagogy while offering approaches to make it an attractive field of study. Delivering Entrepreneurship Education in Africa appeals to academics, teachers, researchers, policymakers, planners, curriculum designers and entrepreneurs.

Nurturing Modalities of Inquiry in Entrepreneurship Research: Seeing the World Through the Eyes of Those who Research. (Contemporary Issues in Entrepreneurship Research 17) 352 pp. 2023:11 (Emerald, UK) <708-417>
ISBN 978-1-80262-186-0 hard ¥31,908.- (税込) US$ 148.00 *
Despite the developing richness of the field of Entrepreneurship research, the output still suffers from a lack of methodological diversity. This edited collection stimulates discussion, shares practice and explores challenges around current and new approaches to inquiry - encompassing all aspects of entrepreneurship research, from its conception through to its execution and related issues such as education, training and learning. Advancing the way, we learn, think about and engage with various modalities of inquiry in Entrepreneurship research and practice, and its related subjects and areas of interest, the chapter authors draw inspiration from leading academics in the subject areas across the field. Their explorations centre around three critical points: the questioning of assumptions - who we are and what it is that we want to achieve; of what really makes sense - how we live and experience, our own and other voices and conversations; and of understanding our relationship with our social world and recognising its dynamic and emergent nature. Contemporary Issues in Entrepreneurship Research is an official book series of the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE). Each volume is designed around a specific theme of importance to the entrepreneurship and small business community with articles collectively exploring and developing theory and practice in the field.

ISBN 978-1-83753-977-2 paper ¥7,543.- (税込) US$ 34.99 *
International leadership expert Michael Jenkins shines a light on the adverse effects of dysfunctional and toxic boards and how they have the potential to destroy an organisation's culture. This can happen through erosion of brand value leading to talent attrition and increased mental health issues in employees due to a deterioration in trust and psychological safety. Combined with recent fundamental changes in the labour market and demographic changes in the workforce, there is a potent cocktail of Future of Work issues that will not go away. Enlightened leaders must tackle such issues head-on if they are to steward sustainable and responsible organisations and businesses. Based on extensive research, including interviews with board members from around the world, together with one-to-one interviews with leaders from the VAB (Virtual Advisory Board) network, Toxic Humans: Combatting Poisonous Leadership in Boards and Organisations outlines various experiences of toxic leadership and how successful directors managed to work with and through it. These interviews shape the final sections of the book where the reader is given a set of recommendations for action to help mitigate and manage the effect of toxic leadership - at the Board, senior leader and team levels - and to build a positive and productive workplace where all can flourish.

ISBN 978-1-80262-952-1 hard ¥12,936.- (税込) US$ 60.00 *
Untangling the tentacles of colonialism is not an easy task, theoretically or in practice. Presenting a holistic view of Decoloniality, its genetic makeup, and its complexities, this book examines how colonialism has become embedded in power, language, culture, institutions, and social structures across the globe, as well as what it might take to relinquish postcolonial thinking in search of a decolonized future. Incorporating perspectives from both the Global North and the Global South, this book dismantles colonial ways of thinking, clearing the way for indigenous and marginalized groups to share their knowledge and expertise in fighting global issues such as climate change. Encouraging intersectional frameworks to open up to to new possibilities for inclusion, author Hamid H. Kazeroony also explores colonization as a gendered process tied to global capitalism and what this might mean for feminist activism and scholarship. To achieve a decolonized future, we must first understand our colonial past, keeping those lessons close as we seek to reconsider and restructure the ontology of epistemic inquiries.

The ABC's of Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) Policy: Spelling Out Problems, Consequences and Viable Solutions. 214 pp. 2023:7 (Springer, GW) <708-426>
ISBN 978-3-031-34462-6 hard ¥28,244.- (税込) EUR 119.99
Innovation is a widely applied yet poorly understood term in the context of public policies and practices among Western nations. Technological innovations specifically have and will continue to advance civilization, shape modern society, and drive the economic health and geo-political standing of nations. This book offers a unique interpretation of science, technology & innovation (STI) policies in Western nations, particularly in regard to government-sponsored programs. The author challenges established thinking, directly addressing numerous myths that cloud our understanding of innovation and proposes a fresh perspective grounded in fundamental logic and analysis. Written in short chapters and presented in an alphabetically organized framework, this book addresses what is working and what isn't working in current STI policies and suggests that the most efficient and effective way to generate technological innovations that yield the desired socio-economic benefits, is for national governments to sponsor directed scientific research and directed engineering development, and align both with the requirements of carefully managed commercial production. The book also features examples drawn from government data, scholarly literature, practitioner anecdotes and the author's personal experience.

Leading Modern Technology Teams in Complex Times: Applying the Principles of the Agile Manifesto. (Future of Business and Finance) 178 pp. 2023:10 (Springer, GW) <708-427>
ISBN 978-3-031-36428-0 hard ¥20,005.- (税込) EUR 84.99
The practices of agile software development and DevSecOps (Development integrated with Security integrated with Operations) differ from traditional linear systems of working. The people doing this work - who they are and what they expect - and the way the work gets done in today's tech industry demand a leadership practice specific to this way of working. This book explores leadership practice in today's technology industry using the twelve principles of the Agile Manifesto as a framework. Each of the twelve principles includes a section of key takeaways to help the reader apply the principle in practice. It extends traditional notions of leadership, specifically Complexity Leadership Theory (CLT), to one that is post-heroic, acknowledging the processual, conjunctive and generative nature of leadership relationships. Leader-follower dynamics are complex-they include power dynamics, conflict, ambiguity, and paradox-and technology organizations are complex. This book challenges the suitability of some aspects of complexity theory and offers practices that are more suitable for leading today's technology organizations.

Design Thinking Research: Innovation - Insight - Then and Now. (Understanding Innovation) 419 pp. 2023:10 (Springer, GW) <708-429>
ISBN 978-3-031-36102-9 hard ¥40,014.- (税込) EUR 169.99
Extensive research conducted at the Hasso Plattner Design Thinking Research Program at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, USA, and at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam, Germany, has yielded valuable insights on why and how design thinking works. The participating researchers have identified metrics, developed models, and conducted studies, which are featured in this book and in the previous volumes of this series. This volume provides readers with tools to bridge the gap between research and practice in design thinking, together with a range of real-world examples. Several different approaches to design thinking are presented, while acquired frameworks are employed to understand team dynamics in design thinking. The contributing authors introduce readers to new approaches and fields of application and show how design thinking can tap the potential of digital technologies in a human-centered way. The book also presents new ideas on neuro-design from Stanford University and the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam, inviting readers to consider newly developed methods and how these insights can be applied to different domains. Design thinking can be learned. It has a methodology that can be observed across multiple settings. Accordingly, readers can adopt new frameworks to modify and update their current practices. The research outcomes gathered here are intended to inform and provide inspiration for all those seeking to drive innovation - be they experienced design thinkers or newcomers. It is the last in a series of 14 volumes published over the past 14 years, reflecting the successes of the HPI-Stanford Design Thinking Research Program. Many thanks to the Hasso Plattner Foundation for its valued support.

The pursuit of excellence in business and management doctorates demands a delicate interplay between the capacity to synthesize intricate evidence (the ant hill) while maintaining a panoramic outlook (helicopter view) and crafting theoretical abstractions. Herein lies the challenge-maintaining equilibrium in this duality. Business and Management Doctorates World-Wide explores debates on the design and delivery of doctorates in business and management to support student employability and create impact. The book provides wide ranging international comparisons and reflections on the purpose and innovations in doctoral education offered by business schools today. Expert contributors analyze North and South American models, European doctorates, insights from the Arab World, doctoral provision in Australia and New Zealand, and ASEAN orientations. These global case studies incorporate explanations about the origins of existing systems and current drivers of behaviour, employment prospects for graduates, the opinions of different stake holders about the relevance of the programmes, and future emerging trends. Business and Management Doctorates World-Wide offers detailed comparative analysis of current practices to highlight reasons for commonalities and differences in different parts of the world with suggestions about lessons shared in diverse contexts.

This book explores how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed entrepreneurial business practices and policies. The role of digitalization and de-internationalisation as part of entrepreneurial business thinking is discussed in this book as a way of keeping track with new research avenues. Due to the fundamental way the COVID-19 pandemic shocked and surprised entrepreneurs, it becomes important to develop new business patterns. Each chapter in this edited book presents a different way to understand these changes and make sense of alterations in the global business environment, thereby ensuring that business academics, policy makers and practitioners are kept abreast of changes. Organizing Creativity: Context, Process, and Practice. 224 pp. 2023:10 (Oxford U. Pr., UK) <708-437>

Creativity is a defining feature of contemporary work life. Who has not taken part in brainstorming sessions, read glossy pamphlets about innovation and creativity as important cornerstones of a new business strategy, or been made aware of the importance of creative skills for one?s career? But what does it mean to be creative in and as an organization? Organizing Creativity provides an answer to this question. The book builds on the premise that creativity is essentially about ideas. Every organization is dependent on valuable ideas for solving everyday problems as well as inventing new processes, products or services. The main argument of the book is that an analysis of organizational creativity should always account for the interdependency of context, process and practice. Based on cultural and processual perspectives, it highlights the implications of context, process and practice for different aspects of the creative process: generating, evaluating and facilitating ideas. Furthermore, it reflects on how dominant notions of creativity in the economy and society prevent transformative changes and suggests a radical transformative approach to organizing creativity as an alternative. To support and illustrate its argument, Organizing Creativity draws on abundant empirical examples, case illustrations and seminal research from Sociology, Social Psychology and Organization Studies. It provides us with a multi-dimensional perspective and will both further our understanding of and spark critical reflection on the complex interplay of the organizational, social and cultural contexts, processes and practices of organizing creativity.

ISBN 978-3-031-34489-3 hard ¥28,244.- (税込) EUR 119.99
This book provides a comprehensive overview of technology start-up arenas in Nairobi and examines their global place. These start-ups are popularly perceived as representing future prosperity that is incorporated in the present. The author examines how developing country arenas lay bare the power asymmetries and taken-for-granted assumptions that determine which technoscientific imaginaries become globalized and universal, and are supported by legitimizing narratives, logics and institutions. A framing of 'catch-up' or 'leapfrogging' for technoscientific development that is based on capitalist modernity is regarded as incontrovertible-so much so that alternative values and approaches to technology production are rarely contemplated. This book documents how actors in Nairobi's startup arena relate to these imaginaries and the affects, enactments and places that they produce.

Courageous Companions: Followership in Doctor Who. (Exploring Effective Leadership Practices through Popular Culture) 156 pp. 2024:1 (Emerald, UK) <708-442>
ISBN 978-1-83753-987-1 paper ¥6,036.- (税込) US$ 28.00 *
Followership as a separate concept within leadership studies gained prominence in the 1990s and has evolved over the past few decades into an indispensable component of the discipline. Nevertheless, misunderstandings about followers and their relationship to leaders prevail. Exploring what it takes to be a follower is increasingly important in the current organizational, social, and political landscapes rife with narcissism, a seemingly acceptable leadership characteristic in the twenty-first century. Being a follower to a mercurial leader isn't easy - especially if they are an alien Time Lord who has lived for centuries in various body incarnations. Followers must not be passive, but full partners in the leader/follower relationship to enable them to reach goals and provide the skills and perspectives leaders need for organizational success. Requiring courage, the numerous and varied companions in the TV series Doctor Who provide a compelling and interesting example of followership from which we can learn to become better, more courageous, followers. By leveraging the intersection of popular culture, leadership theory, and followership theory, Courageous Companions offers an accessible new perspective for those who desire to gain a greater understanding of leaders and followers to transform their relationships and organizations. Exploring Effective Leadership Practices through Popular Culture aims to bring examples, theory and methodology of leadership to life by analysing academic concepts through popular culture examples that will appeal to a broad range of readers.
