This collection comprises chiefly the vols. of copies of letters received (CLR) & copies of letters sent (CLS) for the period from 1842 to 1928, & relating to the Society's activities from Iran in the East to the Mediterranean basin & Gibraltar in the West. Included are the letters dated 1926 - 1928 from 2 vols. entitled "Moslem works", most of which deal with either the Society's desire to support the Abyssinian Church in the face of Muslim missionary activity, or attempts to revive relations with Christian communities in Iraq following the withdrawal of the Church Missionary Society at the end of the World War I.

Related to this collection, & available separately, are the unbound materials from the 3 boxes (C/CRIMEA/1 - 3) on the work of the SPG's chaplains during the Crimean War, 1854 - 1856, along with 2 boxes of letters, reports, etc. from (C/EUR/22 - 23) for the period 1860 - 1948, relating chiefly to the Crimean Memorial Church in Constantinople [i.e. Istanbul], Turkey, which formed part of the Anglican diocese of Gibraltar.
