Using practical methodology and an extensive toolkit, Paradoxical Leadership reveals how to transform divisive dilemmas into creative solutions and paralyzing polarization into a constructive dialogue. He works out the fundamental principles of a paradoxical perspective and explains how to apply them to yourself as a person and a professional, how to integrate them into your leadership style, how to implement them in your team and organization, and how to conduct an effective dialogue on polarizing issues. Developing this paradoxical perspective, the book sheds a refreshingly new light on a wide range of fundamental organizational and management challenges, such as strategy development, business design, corporate governance, performance management, change, agility, innovation, diversity, culture transformation, leadership, and talent. Demonstrating how to manage contradictions, tensions, and dilemmas in a productive and inclusive way, Paradoxical Leadership provides the skills, frameworks, and tools necessary to integrate both/and thinking into your working and leadership style.

Opportunity Recognition: 15 Approaches for More Business Growth. 300 pp. 2023:2 (Springer Gabler, GW) <693-485>
ISBN 978-3-658-39810-1 paper ¥23,536.- (税込) EUR 99.99
The textbook contains a comprehensive presentation of tools that can be used to systematically generate innovative ideas for new business growth ("opportunities"). In practice, it can be observed that companies make considerable efforts to identify ideas for innovations that can decisively shape their industry. The reason for this is not least the knowledge that a missed wave of innovation can lead to major problems for the entire company. A central finding of business management research is that ideas for generating future growth opportunities are often not a product of chance, but the results of systematic analyses. The authors provide a structured and comprehensive overview of the most important tools for identifying new growth opportunities. They distinguish between company-related, market-related and environment-related approaches, incorporate numerous practical examples and provide application-oriented assistance with these tools. The second edition of the book incorporates the latest research findings, some examples have been updated and supplemented, and the book has been expanded to include practical application tasks for teaching and practical workshops.

Base of the Pyramid and Business Process Outsourcing Strategies: In the Age of SDGs. 240 pp. 2023:2 (Springer, GW) <693-493>
ISBN 978-981-19-8170-8 hard ¥37,660.- (税込) EUR 159.99 *
The major objective of this book is to introduce social business models to face the challenge of social issues in emerging countries. Each chapter clarifies business strategies based on diligent field surveys in developing nations, focusing on Bangladesh and the Philippines, where social issues in the age of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are concentrated. The field surveys enable the effective construction of a sophisticated hybrid value chain by connecting a sustainable business ecosystem of local value chains with global value chains. Joint social business entities formed between local NGOs and foreign companies, multinational corporations with global value chains, among others, appear to be the keystones. In Part I, the case of Grameen Euglena in Bangladesh and that of Sari-Sari stores leveraging micro-financing in the Philippines, along with other interesting cases, are analyzed as effective social business models. Analysis also shows that the IT service industryin emerging countries helps to enlarge formal sectors so as to absorb younger generations into informal sectors. The e-health service business in Bangladesh and the business process outsourcing (BPO) IT service industry in the Philippines are examined in each part of the book. Part II, particularly, shows that IT and the digital technology-based service industry can lead to a new industrial development path in these countries instead of the conventional one based on manufacturing. In other words, digital technology-based service industries, as formal sectors, can absorb working people from informal sectors. As a result, poverty issues which form a key issue in SDGS will be alleviated. This book is highly recommended not only to academicians but also to businesspeople who seek an in-depth and up-to-date overview of new sustainable and inclusive businesses in the age of SDGs.

While most managers are primarily concerned with being able to make decisions quickly, manage meetings efficiently and drive innovation, there is often little time for reflection in a business world where opinions must be formed and decisions taken on the hoof. It often seems counterintuitive to stop the clock and take time to think things through. Philosophy, on the other hand, addresses the basic questions of our existence, our identity, our role in the world and the models for living that might inspire our actions. By understanding philosophy, it becomes more possible to provide meaning to many of our management practices and to business at large, while enhancing self-satisfaction and happiness at work. This latest book from Professor Santiago Iniguez presents a collection of management ideas inspired by renowned philosophers. It provides a framework, as well of a series of business situations, for analyzing decisions from the perspective of values and principles. With insights on topics such as, how to gain respect at work, how to cultivate an optimistic outlook and how to shrug off failure, it offers timeless advice for managers that can be applied for their personal and professional development. Offering a unique perspective and valuable insights on what leadership is, and the relevance of values and principles to becoming a successful, recognized manager, this book presents a thoughtful guide to anyone who wants to install meaning into their management practices and their lives.

The Crucial Role of Mindsets in Innovation Efforts: Opening the Black Box in the Context of Frugal Innovation. (Gabler Research: Forschungs- / Entwicklungs- / Innovations-Management) 234 pp. 2022:12 (Springer Gabler, GW) <693-496>
ISBN 978-3-658-39969-6 paper ¥21,182.- (税込) EUR 89.99
Innovation research has investigated the relevance of innovations for organizational competitiveness and the role of innovations for social as well as economic welfare. Accordingly, scholars and practitioners frequently emphasize the innovation processes that lead to desired innovative outcomes. Nevertheless, these innovation processes have to be carried out by motivated individuals. Increasingly, academic literature takes the mindsets of these actors into consideration. However, diverging conceptualizations limit our understanding of the term "mindset" and the role of individuals' mindsets in organizational innovation efforts. This book aims at opening the "black box" of innovation as a mindset. Linking mindset theories from social psychology to the context of frugal innovation, the author provides rigorous conceptual work on mindsets in innovation. This conceptual research is supported by findings from two empirical studies. This book makes important contributions to theoryand practice: to academic research by developing conceptual clarity on understanding innovation as a mindset and providing supportive empirical evidence, and to innovation practice by showing how a detailed understanding of individuals' mindsets can inform evidence-based change interventions.

The second section focuses on leadership principles from Vedic scriptures such as Ramayana and Vedanta. The third section includes leadership principles from other scriptures such as Buddhism, Confucianism, Daoism, and Thirukural. Aligning leadership practices with the notion of unbounded consciousness, this edited collection will extend the literature on organizational culture, leadership, and sustainability, contributing to solving the grand challenges facing humanity.Chapter(s) Chapters 2 and 6 are available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.

Managing for Social Justice: Harnessing Management Theory and Practice for Collective Good. 651 pp. 2023:2 (Palgrave Macmillan, UK) <693-512>
ISBN 978-3-031-19970-7 hard ¥40,014.- (税込) EUR 169.99
The book introduces a preliminary, integrative conceptual framework on the intersections between management and social justice with a view that the quest for social justice is not an endpoint rather an ongoing journey. With contributions from management scholars and practitioners, it highlights, examines, and explores the continuities and discontinuities, gains and losses, and struggles and successes in this quest for reimagining organizations as sites and vehicles for advancing social justice in the world. To nurture and facilitate flourishing individuals and collectives, we need bolder, more innovative, and more creative models of engagement. Further, we need models for speaking and learning from different perspectives and building common ground through shared values of equity, connectivity, and compassion and moral expansiveness while recognizing the complexities of the world we inhabit via our organizations and the need to develop nuanced understandings of the same.Contributing authors address questions such as: Are social justice and management mutually exclusive concepts? How can we draw on effective management for advancing social justice aims? How do we bend the arc of organizational life towards more justice? What are the rights and obligations of organizations and their members to the world at large, and to their local communities and societies?Through its re-imagining of organizations and management as vehicles for social justice instead of just as tools of oppression, injustice, or regressive organizing in an extractive economy, this book brings together critical and positive organizational approaches challenging fundamental assumptions about how our society, people's collectives, and workplaces are organized with capacity building, incremental change, sustained change, institutionalized change, dynamic ongoing problem-solving/ assessment/ redesign, and more. Management scholars will learn the nuanced and complex intersections between management theories and practice and different types of justice/injustice in a global context both as antecedents to modern organizations and workplaces and the ways in which these intersectional actors advance and change the organizations and workplaces of the future.

The Smiling Chatbot: Investigating Emotional Contagion in Human-to-Chatbot Service Interactions. 223 pp. 2022:12 (Springer Gabler, GW) <693-513>
ISBN 978-3-658-40027-9 paper ¥21,182.- (税込) EUR 89.99
Significant advances in the field of artificial intelligence have given a strong tailwind to the spread of technologies based on it. AI technologies are increasingly influencing private contexts but also the service sector where more and more service encounters are handled by chatbots. In part, however, the spread of chatbots and the associated focus on their functional advantages seem to contradict extant research findings that service interactions are also driven by emotional components. A central role is played here by so-called emotional contagion (i.e., the unconscious transfer of emotions from employees to customers). Against the background that this contagion with positive emotions can lead to a better evaluation of the service transaction in the further course, it is the goal of this book to investigate the effects of positive displayed emotions of a chatbot. For this purpose, six consecutive studies were conducted. The results show that the expression of positive emotions by a chatbot enriches the service interactions by transmitting positive emotions that, in the further course, do also lead to a better evaluation of the service experienced. Moreover, it is shown that these emotional reactions are dependent on the customer's personality and the chatbot's appearance, expressed through an avatar.

Digital Mindsets: The Analysis of a Multidimensional Construct. (Zukunftsfaehige Unternehmensfuehrung in Forschung und Praxis) 200 pp. 2022:11 (Springer Gabler, GW) <693-514>
ISBN 978-3-658-39752-4 paper ¥21,182.- (税込) EUR 89.99
Digital technologies change employees' working environments, methods and behaviours profoundly and are challenging employees' very personal beliefs, attitudes and identities. Digital mindsets provide insight into an individual's beliefs, attitudes and assumptions related to digitalisation. Strongly influencing employee behaviour, they play a major role in an organisation's digital transformation. Building on research on mindsets, cognition and digitalisation, Ricarda Rauch analyses digital mindsets both conceptionally and empirically. Within one qualitative and two quantitative studies, she explores the personal meaning of digitalisation and derives four central digital mindsets. Her research helps to better understand the extent to which digitalisation impacts employees, explains their subsequent behaviour, and proposes beneficial employee development measures. The thesis reveals relevant implications for organisational researchers, HR practicioners and management alike.

Successful negotiation with the driver seat concept. 449 pp. 2023:2 (Springer Gabler, GW) <693-516>
ISBN 978-3-658-39933-7 hard ¥25,890.- (税込) EUR 109.99
With this book, Hermann Rock provides time-structured core negotiation strategies that can be immediately applied in practice. The author's expertise comes primarily from negotiations in the context of M&A transactions and management investments. However, the concepts presented are equally applicable to negotiations of financing, car purchase, lease or service contracts and thus universally applicable. Three (scientifically based) basic strategies are presented, which the reader can adapt to his or her specific negotiation situation. The examples chosen for illustration are concrete cases negotiated by the author himself. With the certainty of having understood the three basic strategies, the reader enters the negotiation with a positive basic mood and thus creates the basis for his negotiation success. Hermann Rock has successfully presented his strategies for negotiation management many times in lectures and magazines (Focus) and now presents them for the first time in book form as a consistent further development of the Harvard concept.

Entrepreneurship and Well-being: Exploring the UN Sustainable Development Goals through the lenses of GEM and Other Indicators. (Sustainable Development Goals Series 17) 298 pp. 2023 (Palgrave Macmillan, UK) <693-520>
ISBN 978-3-031-19180-0 hard ¥35,306.- (税込) EUR 149.99 *
Contributing to the targets of SDG #17, this book interrogates how the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) and other indicators are (or can be) relevant for entering the global discussion on UN SDGs. By highlighting the topic of 'well-being' as a major connecting point between the SDGs, the GEM and other surveys the book has three main purposes: firstly, it shows that GEM data can contribute significantly to the monitoring process of the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals; secondly it analyses the survey's capacity to add value to the global discussion on well-being; thirdly, the book places emphasis on the pressing need for data in order to monitor the achievement of the SDGs. Ultimately, the book provides sound research that can serve as a basis for discussion with the UN on potential partnerships within the framework of SDG 17. The authors encourage GEM and other researchers to ensure that their data serves as a reliable partner to the UN in building a better world, based on well-being for everyone.

ISBN 978-981-19-8166-1 hard ¥35,306.- (税込) EUR 149.99
This book investigates in detail large-scale group decision-making (LSGDM) problem, which has gradually evolved from the traditional group decision-making problem and has attracted more and more attention in the age of big data. Pursuing a holistic approach, the book establishes a fundamental framework for LSGDM with uncertain and behavioral considerations. To address the behavioral uncertainty and complexity of large groups of decision-makers, this book mainly focuses on new solutions of LSGDM problems using the interval type-2 fuzzy uncertainty theory and social network analysis techniques, including the exploration of uncertain clustering analysis, the consideration of social relationships, especially trust relationships, the construction of consensus evolution networks, etc. The book is intended for researchers and postgraduates who are interested in complex group decision-making in the new media era. Authors also investigate the similar features between LSGDM problems and group recommendations to study the applications of LSGDM methods. After reading this book, readers will have a new understanding of the LSGDM study under the real complicated context.

Products and services based on advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain are normally considered to be for rich consumers in advanced countries. Fourth Revolution and the Bottom Four Billion demonstrates how marginalized and vulnerable groups with limited resources can also benefit from these technologies. Nir Kshetri suggests that the falling costs and the increased ease of developing and deploying applications based on these technologies are making them more accessible. He illustrates how key emerging technologies are transforming major industries and application areas such as healthcare and pandemic preparedness, agriculture, finance, banking, and insurance. The book also looks at how these transformations are affecting the lives of low-income people in low- and middle-income countries and highlights the areas needing regulatory attention to adequately protect marginalized and vulnerable groups from the abuse and misuse of these technologies. Kshetri discusses how various barriers such as the lack of data, low resource languages, underdeveloped technology infrastructures, lack of computing power and shortage of skill and talent have hindered the adoption of these technologies among marginalized and vulnerable groups. Fourth Revolution and the Bottom Four Billion suggests that it is the responsibility of diverse stakeholders-governments, NGOs, international development organizations, academic institutions, the private sector, and others-to ensure that marginal groups also benefit from these transformative innovations.

ISBN 978-1-80455-563-7 hard ¥24,794.- (税込) US$ 115.00 *
With the rapid development of technologies, it becomes increasingly important for us to remain up-to-date on new and emerging technologies. This series, therefore, aims to deliver content on current and future technologies and how the young generation benefits from this. The global financial crisis has highlighted major weaknesses in financial records, information, and data. These weaknesses have led to inadequacies in the access to financial records and information, higher operational risks, flawed bankruptcies, and foreclosure proceedings. The Lockdown due to the ongoing pandemic COVID-19 has increased the scope for criminals to exploit vulnerabilities and commit financial crimes. The increased online presence and homeworking have significantly expanded the attack surface for cybercriminals. Criminals are exploiting vulnerabilities, increasing the risks of cyber-attacks, money laundering and terrorist financing. Research is therefore needed to identify trends, tools and applications that will provide the needed records, information, and data to support more effective financial analysis and risk management. Financial Technology (FinTech) has become one of the most pioneering and cost-effective disruptive technologies. Initial adaptation of FinTech solutions has permitted several start-ups, financial service providers, and other assorted sectors to accomplish an augmented pace of growth. Contemporary Studies of Risks in Emerging Technology: Part A also highlights how emerging technologies are altering the subtleties of doing business for financial services benefactors, possibility of emerging technologies, advantages and disadvantages, technology linked issues/challenges in financial services, and also highlights drivers of this revolution.
