This book explores narratives' contribution to leadership development and how the development of narrative leadership provides leaders with opportunities in an age of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity.
Bringing together educators, researchers, coaches, and practitioners, the book traverses the dark side of leadership storytelling, leadership storytelling for inclusiveness, and innovative narrative practices. It introduces critical concepts such as narrative betrayal, narrative humility, and narrative reflexivity in order to examine storytelling not only as a source of inspiration and belonging but also as a site of ethical tension, power, and responsibility. This book will deepen readers' understanding of how and why storytelling is important in leader and leadership development contexts and provide practical tools and strategies for leadership development.
Ideal for leadership educators, facilitators, researchers, and organisational practitioners, this book provides essential tools and perspectives for developing leaders in today's complex world. More than a toolkit, it is an invitation to reflect more deeply on leadership itself.

Rather than adding to the noise of quick-fix leadership solutions, Leading from the Inside Out invites you to pause, reflect, and discover the profound impact of self-aware leadership.
Written with the warmth and wisdom of a trusted mentor, this book challenges organizational leaders and managers to look inward before leading outward. Through engaging personal stories, real-world case studies, and moments of unexpected humor, you will explore how reflective leadership becomes your most powerful tool for navigating uncertainty and complexity. Authored by Manfred F. R. Kets de Vries, this book draws on his decades of groundbreaking work in executive coaching and psychoanalysis and reveals how the most effective leaders aren't those with all the answers, but those who are willing to ask the deeper questions. Here, you'll discover practical insights into understanding your own leadership patterns, recognizing the unconscious dynamics within your organization, and creating space for authentic decision-making in high-pressure environments.
This isn't another leadership manual filled with frameworks and formulas. Instead, it's an honest conversation about the human side of leadership-the doubts, breakthroughs, and the ongoing journey of becoming a more conscious leader. Whether you are a seasoned executive, emerging manager, or someone seeking to lead with greater authenticity and impact, this book offers the reflective tools needed to thrive in our complex world.

Navigating Organizational Complexity: Resilience and Adaptability from Black Swans to Green explores the challenges of contemporary management in an era defined by unpredictability, complexity, and environmental volatility. Drawing on Nassim Taleb's metaphor of the "black swan", this book expands this concept to include a typology of transformative events: Black Swans (negative and unexpected), White Swans (positive and unexpected), Gray Swans (known but neglected threats), and Green Swans (long-term environmental megatrends). Through interdisciplinary analysis, it examines how organizations can build resilience, adapt to uncertainty, and thrive in the face of disruption. It offers practical tools and frameworks for strategic foresight, leadership, and risk management, making it an essential resource for navigating the complexities of the modern business environment. Key features include an innovative approach to the "black swan" metaphor, integrating concepts such as antifragility, organizational resilience, and sustainability. This book combines insights from management, sociology, psychology, and economics, with references to global crises, climate change, and digitization. Readers will benefit from practical strategies for fostering adaptability, learning cultures, and visionary leadership, supported by rich academic literature and real-world examples. It is ideal for academics, researchers, and advanced students in management, organizational studies, and sustainability, as well as business leaders seeking actionable insights to future-proof their organizations.

Leading scholars examine the complex interplay of Amazon's encounters with markets, institutions, and actors in national and subnational settings. They analyze the consequences of fast-paced, low-skilled labor mandates against the backdrop of fierce resistance from union and civil society campaigners and local competitors. Chapters contribute to key debates, evaluating Amazon's history of anti-union behavior and increasingly algorithmically driven management. Drawing on empirical research, the book assesses union and community efforts and regulatory initiatives that seek to contest and contain the social impacts of a warehousing and delivery system built on speed, worker exploitation, and refashioning economic geographies around immediate one-click consumerism.
An essential resource for understanding the global infrastructure of increasingly digitized multinational tech corporations, this book is an invaluable resource for scholars and students of business management, economics, political economy, human rights, and labour policy. E-commerce and NGO professionals, as well as policymakers, will similarly benefit from its timely and practical discussion of advocacy approaches and policy controversies.

This book offers a pioneering and comprehensive examination of entrepreneurial leadership as an emerging and transformative approach to leadership theory and practice. Moving beyond traditional leadership models that emphasise innate personality traits and end outcomes, this book advances a dynamic, holistic perspective that foregrounds leadership development across diverse and often underexplored organisational contexts, including corporations, higher education institutions, and small and medium-sized enterprises.
Addressing the fragmented nature of existing scholarship, this book consolidates theoretical and empirical perspectives on entrepreneurial leadership, outlining its core attributes, antecedents, and developmental pathways. It adopts a multi-level lens, examining entrepreneurial leadership development at the individual, team, and organisational levels, and proposes practical development strategies such as experiential, reflective, and social learning, leadership development programmes, and digital and e-learning platforms.
A defining strength of this book lies in its integration of theory with practice. It identifies key entrepreneurial leadership capabilities and illustrates their application through practical case studies. This book also critically engages with contemporary challenges, incorporating ethics, contextual diversity, and technological orientation in an AI-driven world. It bridges theory and practice, offers actionable insights, and provides a roadmap for developing entrepreneurial leaders equipped to navigate complexity, uncertainty, and change in the twenty-first century.

Contributing authors investigate how MLM schemes create legitimacy by merging commerce, community and belief, while consumer protection is undermined through opaque business practices, weak regulations and industry lobbying. Chapters outline how MLM has created its own ecosystem of self-employment, masquerading as entrepreneurial freedom while advertising false autonomy and ensuring that few participants ever achieve meaningful economic reward. By emphasising participant experiences and tracing the entanglements of ideology, regulation and organisational strategy, this book advances Critical MLM Studies as a framework for understanding MLM as a global industry.
Presenting MLMs as frequently destructive and harmful, Critical Perspectives on Multilevel Marketing is an essential resource for scholars and students of business, economics and finance, management studies, marketing and consumer law. Consumer protection agencies and MLM activists will also benefit from its evidence-based approach.

This comprehensive guide reveals how to systematically identify and capture cross-selling and up-selling opportunities, whether through internal transformation, organisational consolidation or merger and acquisition scenarios. By understanding the fundamental principles of revenue expansion and cost optimisation at the same time, business leaders can dramatically improve their company's value proposition while strengthening market position.
Every business professional will encounter organisational change - whether through M&A activity during economic booms or internal restructuring during downturns. These pivotal moments present extraordinary opportunities to simultaneously increase sales and reduce costs, yet most organisations fail to maximise their potential. This book provides the strategic framework and practical tools needed to excel during these critical transitions, showing how to plan and implement cross-selling initiatives that deliver substantial revenue growth while streamlining operations for maximum efficiency. Drawing from real-world M&A scenarios and internal transformation case studies, this guide demonstrates how to improve profit from both ends of the equation. You will learn to identify cross-selling opportunities that others miss, develop implementation strategies that minimise disruption and create sustainable revenue streams that outlast the initial organisational change.
Whether you are leading a merger integration, managing a divisional consolidation or simply seeking to optimise your current sales approach, this book provides the insights and methodologies to transform organisational complexity into competitive advantage and measurable profit improvement.

In an era where digital transformation promises speed but often delivers complexity, organizations still struggle to turn automation into a lasting advantage. This book offers a practical, proven roadmap for leaders ready to bridge that gap.
Drawing from more than 25 years of transformation experience across global industries, Dr. Marciano B. Hermo IV shows how Lean Six Sigma's (LSS's) discipline becomes even more powerful when paired with intelligent automation. Through a structured integration cycle, real-world examples, and field-tested tools, this book demonstrates how improvement and technology reinforce-not replace-each other.
Whether you lead a team, an enterprise, or a transformation program, you will learn how to: (a) simplify and stabilize work before automating; (b) build digital capability that scales and sustains; (c) strengthen decision logic and reduce exceptions; (d) engage people, develop talent, and reshape roles; and (e) measure value beyond cost savings and uptime.
Clear, practical, and designed for real operations, not theory, this book equips leaders to transform workflows, uplift performance, and create enduring competitive advantage in the digital age.
This book is a forward-looking guide to the convergence of Lean Six Sigma and automation technologies, including Robotic Process Automation (RPA), intelligent automation, and artificial intelligence. Grounded in both rigorous research and hands-on experience, it presents a practical framework for integrating continuous improvement methodologies with digital transformation tools. Through models, case vignettes, and step-by-step strategies, it helps organizations evolve from traditional process optimization to scalable, tech-enabled excellence.
Designed for professionals in operations, quality, and process improvement, as well as digital transformation leaders, LSS practitioners, IT strategists, and decision-makers across enterprises of all sizes, the book also serves as an advanced resource for graduate students and academics in business, industrial engineering, and information systems.
As global organizations face rising demands for speed, accuracy, cost-efficiency, and customer focus, traditional improvement methods must adapt. This book addresses the need to rethink process transformation in the context of Industry 4.0, bridging the gap between LSS and automation to offer a roadmap for sustainable, end-to-end operational excellence.
Readers will gain a strategic, structured approach to integrating automation into improvement initiatives, leading to faster return on investment, greater agility, and enhanced resilience. By empowering professionals to reduce waste, unlock hidden value, and lead transformation with confidence, the book equips enterprises-from startups to global corporations-to stay competitive and future-ready in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

For readers who want to understand the hidden logic of how teams actually work, this book challenges the myth of the perfectly aligned, "optimized" culture and instead reveals how tension and conflict make real teams resilient.
Drawing on eighteen months of immersive observation inside four small firms, Eric R. Kushins offers a rare, firsthand look at teams in action. He uncovers how effective team cultures emerge, shift, and sustain themselves over time. Readers gain new conceptual tools for recognizing how relationships, rituals, and routines shape organizational performance, along with practical strategies for managing the cultural cycle of stability, crisis, and growth.
Culture is not a program to be rolled out. It is a performance lived every day. By understanding the dynamics that govern team interaction, leaders can better coordinate work, manage tension, and build organizations capable of navigating change. Hidden Rhythms of Teams is an essential guide for executives, HR leaders, consultants, entrepreneurs, family business owners, and MBA students seeking to build organizations that perform, adapt, and endure.

This book reframes leadership for a world transformed by AI, accelerating technologies, and planetary fragility. It argues that leadership is no longer about control or optimisation but about orientation: knowing what matters, sensing direction, and acting with moral courage when certainty collapses. In this new era, inherited formulas fall short. What leaders need instead is disciplined imagination - curiosity expansive enough to explore new possibilities, yet grounded enough to stay accountable to human consequence.
The book invites readers to see leaders as stewards, not owners; organisations as living systems, not machines; and leadership as an act of storytelling. Every story a leader tells shapes the world - connecting or fragmenting, regenerating or extracting, widening horizons or narrowing them. Drawing on leadership theory, systems thinking, ethics, narrative art, futures studies, and spiritual wisdom, the book blends rigorous insight with poetic depth, urging leaders to listen more deeply, imagine more boldly, and act with integrity.
At its core are three navigational frameworks - the Leadership Compass, the Moral Gyroscope, and Cosmic Leadership - guiding leaders at all levels and across disciplines through purpose, people, performance, possibility, and ethics. Ultimately, the book poses a provocative question: when machines can optimise almost everything, what remains unmistakably human about leadership?

By integrating social ontology and epistemology, the book offers a systematic realist account of tourism, explaining how tourist entities, institutions, and practices are constituted, how tourism reality is structured as a domain of social reality, and how knowledge about this domain can be justified.
It provides a clear philosophical foundation for understanding tourism by learning how tourism reality is constituted and how knowledge about it can be justified. The book delivers these benefits through a systematic framework that integrates social ontology and epistemology, drawing on realist philosophy and Searle-inspired social ontology. It clarifies key concepts, distinguishes types of entities and facts within tourism reality, and explains the institutional mechanisms, such as collective intentionality, status functions, and constitutive rules, which structure the tourism domain. These theoretical arguments are illustrated with real-world examples from tourism practice that help explain how particular aspects of the framework operate in concrete contexts. By combining conceptual analysis with a coherent epistemological account of how tourism knowledge can be evaluated, the book provides researchers and advanced students with a rigorous meta-theoretical framework that supports clearer interpretation, stronger theoretical grounding, and more consistent research in tourism studies.
The book is intended primarily for scholars, researchers, and postgraduates in tourism studies who seek a deeper theoretical and philosophical understanding of tourism as a social phenomenon. It will also be of interest to academics in sociology, human geography, economics, anthropology, and philosophy of the social sciences, particularly those concerned with social ontology and epistemology. It may also benefit advanced graduate students and researchers engaged in theoretical, conceptual, or interdisciplinary work on tourism and social reality for its analysis of tourism reality.

Johanson and Aboagye propose that economics too often focuses on tools for calculation and accounting, leading to excessive consumption and a negative impact on occupational health and safety. Drawing on examples from diverse work environments, they argue that constant reflection on ethical principles and societal norms must be present when economic decisions are made. Chapters advocate for a new democratic economic model which aims to build a world where the economy serves humanity, enabling people to live with less fear and uncertainty.
Pluralistic Economics is a prescient resource for scholars and students of business and management, finance and economics. Governance policymakers and business managers will also benefit from its human-focused insights and practical suggestions for improved workplace dynamics.

By thinking differently about audit, this exciting book establishes that the conceptual core of audit itself is the art of thinking differently: the making of those new connections that inspire the creativity and confidence to challenge established thinking and provide actionable insight. Audit is reconceptualised as a vital, creative, engine of progress - in society, the economy, the environment and in the appropriate use of technology. Progress requires confidence in the future. Audit addresses whether an audited entity is deserving of confidence and capable of developing - with deserved confidence flowing from creativity, sustainability, resilience and fair treatment. Audit becomes a form of social conscience, responding to, evaluating and influencing the ideas and ideals that a society or an entity within a society holds dear.
Through such framing, audit no longer observes from the sidelines but drives progress in business and society more generally. Whilst audit's traditional notions of conformity, control and compliance can be readily captured by a machine, the insight, imagination and inspiration that comes from thinking differently is fundamentally human. In this respect, the future of audit and of humanity converge. This book is not just for auditors and accountants concerned about the future of their profession but is an invitation to all with an interest in the future well-being of business and society to reformulate how they view audit.

At its core, the book explores whether virtual meetings can enable the creation of common ground. By focusing on practices of coordination, collaboration and coorientation, the book demonstrates the importance of common memories, common matters of concern and common experiences in producing common ground. It does not assume that virtual meetings are deficient compared to co-located meetings, but rather considers meeting virtually to be an interesting phenomenon to study on its own terms. Chapters use empirical evidence to investigate virtual meetings and how they differ from in-person events.
How Virtual Meetings Matter for Community at Work is an essential read for academics and scholars of organisation theory, human resource management, working life studies, sociology, science and technology studies, and communication. Its focus on inclusive working practices will also prove beneficial for managers and HRM practitioners.

Leadership, Art, and Responsibility begins where strategies and tools fall silent: when leaders are drawn into a demanding encounter with poetry and music, where vulnerability, tragedy and moral ambiguity unsettle how responsibility is felt and power is exercised. Building on insights from neuroscience, philosophy and psychology, Julia Romanowska reveals how the shock and beauty of art can unsettle leaders' judgement - and their very sense of who they are.
At the centre of the book is the Shibboleth leadership programme, evaluated in a randomised study showing measurable changes in leaders, with effects extending to stress-related hormone levels among their employees.
Uniting aesthetics, emotion and ethics, the book argues for leadership grounded in exposure rather than control, and in responsibility rather than technique. Romanowska terms this integration aestemethics and challenges reductive models of leadership training, opening another horizon for leadership.
The book will interest scholars and students of leadership, management, organisational health psychology, philosophy and cultural studies, as well as practitioners concerned with ethically serious leadership and the human consequences of organisational life. It insists on responsibility when the dignity of human life is at stake - and consequences cannot be undone.
